If you think back about the traditional marketing ways used to market our business, we used print ads, brochures, flyers, pamphlets, paper based proposals, tender documents and newsletters. Those were the days when use to perceive and take care of these tender documents because they were very important for the business. In tender documents, people use to manually write all the information into convoluted policy documents and templates.
Usually people find it difficult to understand the document which was written by somebody else. In the past 15 years there has been a revolution in the way communication is done. We now want quicker, faster and better things. We want to have our information in digestible chunks rather then jargon, complex language and pompous sounding words. We are now used to Web Copywriting which is the new form of writing business documents.
When Websites were initially made they were just like the old fashioned documents which are put on the net. Such websites are known as brochure sites because they contained information available in business brochures. The language used to be tough and formal and was mainly focused on talking about company. But even the form of websites have been developed a lot in recent years
People now want quick and relevant information. Only if the page we are reading seems relevant to our need we seek to go deeper and read more. Otherwise, we simply leave the page.
In the pas 2-3 years there has been further change about the way we process information. We now want to engage in discussion about the product and find out what other think about it. We love to share our views and thoughts. This has given rise to social networking and interactive Websites.
The art of Web copywriting lies in understanding he trend in communication and presenting the information following the trend so the people get it easily. We need to add colors to copywriting in such a way that allow people to scan and then go to find deeper information. We don’t talk the way Shakespeare used to. Same is the case with Internet and Web copywriting. So it is better to go with what is in the trend and follow it.
